WPA Auction Gala

Come to the ball! The Washington Project for the Arts is having their annual auction gala and as usual, it's going to be awesome. Their such a great organization and this event is great combination of swank, art and the thrill of buying stuff competition style. I'll have a piece in it but it has to remain Secret Squirrel.

The opening, which is free and for the general public, is February 11th.

I'm still waiting for the punchline, but so far, I'm still in (e)merge, and not only that, I'm in Conner Contemporary Art's room. Nuts! This fair's going to be insane. Definitely worth checking out and then checking out again and if you can, again.

Something I'm not missing out on is Jeffry Cudlin v. Kathryn Cornelius in 'Triathalon Of The Muses'. Check out what's in store here. If I loved these artists any more I'd need some smelling salts.

I'm super excited about my upcoming solo, 'Scenes of Mild Peril' at Conner Contemporary Art in November.

It'll be a concurrent solo with artist Patricia Piccinini who does the most incredible sculpture, and frankly, I think I'm going to need a stiff glass of water and lie-down when I see her work!

I'm keeping images under wraps and on the down-low until the opening, so apologies for the scarcity of new stuff on the blog or website. That said, here's a sneaky peaky detail of something new. Shhh!

I recently started shooting a new series Candy Girls/Candy Boys. I think some of the images from this series will be in the awesome gallery Curator's Office during November for Fotoweek DC. The images for the show are nowhere near finalized, so the ones I'm posting aren't necessarily them! They're just a few that I've proofed so far.

The other photographer in the show (title yet to be determined) is Cecilia Paredes, who makes really beautiful stuff.

There's also some really cool stuff happening next year but I have to keep my cake hole shut as they're not official yet...

It was a hot, hot day (100F), and it rained on us, and we had our pates cooked by a barely shaded sun. Who says there's no more suffering involved in art? Yes indeedy, more cowbell!

Tweet Therapy?

So the past few days have been total misery. Puss has been very ill and until late last night, there was no known cause. Things are now looking more hopeful....

It got me thinking though, as I sent out the odd Tweet about it, about the possible therapeutic benefits to Tweeting. Even though I know nobody's reading or is going to read my Tweety wafflings, (also possibly why I feel okay about Tweeting in the first place) it somehow causes a brief pressure evacuation of sorts, similar to when you voice a deep, dark secret, confide in a friend, or seek the council of a shrink.

I love the image of millions of disconnected people dropping their 140 characters or less Tweets into the unblinking, indifferent ocean of the Twitterverse. Each Tweet partially drowning out that of their neighbor's, and thus contributing to the over all cacophony of simple joys, bitchings, pains, and banalities.

I sound my barbaric Tweet! Ain't life grand.

Come to Poste (above Hotel Monaco), at 555 8th Street, NW Washington, DC 20004 on July 19, 2010, 5:00pm - 8:00pm to do some speed-dating with artists.

Artist speed-dating is being run in conjunction with the show Art Scouts at the Arlington Arts Center. The idea is that for 5 bucks, anyone can have 3 minutes to ask an artist anything about their practice. Anything! God help you if you get lumped with me, 'cause I'll be there, lowering the tone and sullying all good people en masse!
